Hedgerow Notes

Evening light on the ridge

The ridge path starts behind the last farm and climbs steadily for about forty minutes. I left late, so the whole way up the shadows were getting longer and the valley was filling with a soft haze.

After such a dry summer the grass on top is the colour of straw, almost silver when the low sun catches it. There was no wind at all. From the cairn you can follow the river by the line of trees along it, all the way to the next village.

The cairn, the sun and not much else.

Came down with the last of the light and a torch I did not need to use, which always feels like a small victory.
